Recreation

Outdoor activities are great sources of exercise and enjoyment. Retirement properties located near trails of various kinds make it easier to engage in these activities regularly. You can find out about trails in Southeast Wisconsin by following these links:

WHITE RIVER STATE TRAIL

Near Lake Geneva, this trail is great for bicycling. It follows a former railroad bed, and extends for eleven miles from Elkhorn to a point just west of Burlington, WI. The surface is crushed rock. For more information and a map, follow the DNR link below, then search White River Trail.

WisDOT provides extensive information to help bikers. The Wisconsin State Bike Map provides information about bicycling conditions on state and county roads, bicycle trails, mountain bike facilities, etc.

Also, WisDOT has downloadable bike maps for each of Wisconsin's 72 counties and information about local bicycle maps and routes. Some maps created by Wisconsin counties and communities can be downloaded. Were they cannot, source information is provided.

These include snowmobile, all-terrain vehicle, backpacking, cross-

country skiing, hiking, horse riding, off-road motorcycling, nature trails, snowshoeing, maritime, birding, and trail events.

The White River State Trail page is a good entry point for this information. Just go to dnr.wi.gov (top of page) then search White River Trail, then click State Trails on the left.

Snowmobilers and all-terrain vehicle riders can use this State Trails link for much more than trail information. Included are links concerning accident reporting, age requirements, registration, trail passes and more.
